ELECTRONIC APPARATUS FOR OBTAINING CONTACT INFORMATION FOR AN OBJECT AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240161311 titled 'ELECTRONIC APPARATUS FOR OBTAINING CONTACT INFORMATION FOR AN OBJECT AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an electronic apparatus that uses markers on a contact portion to identify displacement and force applied to the object in contact with the apparatus.

  • The electronic apparatus includes a contact portion with markers, a camera, and a processor.
  • The processor identifies displacement of markers based on images captured by the camera.
  • The processor then determines the intensity and direction of the force applied to the contact portion.
  • Markers have different forms or colors to differentiate them from each other.

Potential Applications

This technology could be used in:

  • Virtual reality and augmented reality systems for more accurate interaction with virtual objects.
  • Robotics for precise force feedback and control in robotic arms.

Problems Solved

  • Accurately measuring and responding to forces applied to electronic devices.
  • Enhancing user experience in interactive systems by providing realistic feedback.

Benefits

  • Improved accuracy in measuring forces applied to electronic devices.
  • Enhanced user experience in virtual and augmented reality applications.

Potential Commercial Applications

  • Gaming industry for more immersive gaming experiences.
  • Medical field for surgical simulations and training.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be force feedback devices used in gaming controllers, which provide vibration feedback based on in-game events.

Unanswered Questions

1. How does the apparatus differentiate between intentional and unintentional forces applied to the contact portion? 2. What is the response time of the processor in identifying and responding to the force applied to the contact portion?

Original Abstract Submitted

an electronic apparatus includes a contact portion including a plurality of markers, a camera, and at least one processor configured to identify, based on at least one surface of the contact portion contacting an object, at least one displacement of the plurality of markers based on a first image in which a first surface of the contact portion that is opposite to the at least one surface is captured by the camera, and identify, based on the at least one displacement, at least one of an intensity of a force applied to the contact portion and a direction of the force applied to the contact portion, where a first marker of the plurality of markers includes at least one of a form and a color that is different from a second marker of the plurality of markers that is adjacent to the first marker.
