a method is disclosed for transmission of one or more packets in an unlicensed communication environment based on a transmit power setting. each packet includes a first part and a second part, wherein the first part is associated with a potential received signal-to-noise ratio (snr) when the transmit power setting is used. the method includes processing the first part of the one or more packets before transmission, wherein the processing comprises enforcing a reduced received snr for the first part, which is lower than the potential received snr. in some embodiments, enforcing the reduced received snr for the first part includes adding noise to the first part and/or applying a decreased transmit power setting for the first part. in some embodiments, the transmission of the one or more packets is in accordance with an ieee 802.11 standard and the first part is a legacy preamble.
