CODEBOOK-BASED BEAMFORMING CONSIDERATIONS FOR RECONFIGURABLE SURFACES

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20250023606 titled 'CODEBOOK-BASED BEAMFORMING CONSIDERATIONS FOR RECONFIGURABLE SURFACES

Original Abstract Submitted

methods, systems, and devices for codebook-based beamforming considerations for reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (riss) are described. for example, an ris may transmit, to a first wireless device, an indication of a capability of using different types of precoders for generating a codebook for the ris for redirecting wireless signals. the codebook may include codewords associated with weights for respective elements of the ris. in some cases, the ris may receive, from the first wireless device, a type of precoder for generating the codebook. as such, the ris may adjust one or more elements using the weights for the respective elements based on receiving the indication and in accordance with training a communication link between the first wireless device and a second wireless device via the plurality of elements. in some examples, the ris may receive, from the first wireless device, an index corresponding to a codeword.
