ADAPTIVE PAGING IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION NETWORKS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240057032 titled 'ADAPTIVE PAGING IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION NETWORKS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for a radio access network (RAN) node to modify the scheduling of paging occasions for user equipment (UE) based on the device type classification of the UE.

  • The RAN node assigns UEs to device-type classifications based on battery parameters or service type.
  • The RAN node adjusts the scheduling of paging occasions for UEs, and others in the same class, based on their device classification.
  • UEs can specify certain types of traffic or paging occasions that should not be skipped.
  • The RAN node can indicate to UEs not to skip upcoming paging occasions.
  • The RAN node can configure UEs with a paging pattern to use when UE conditions change.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Improved efficiency in paging and resource allocation in wireless networks.
  • Enhanced battery life for UEs by optimizing paging occasions based on device type.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Reducing unnecessary paging occasions for UEs, leading to improved network performance.
  • Customizing paging strategies based on device characteristics, improving overall user experience.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Increased network efficiency and resource utilization.
  • Extended battery life for UEs through optimized paging strategies.
  • Enhanced user experience with tailored paging schedules based on device type.

Original Abstract Submitted

a user equipment requests from a ran node skipping of paging occasions that the ran node otherwise may schedule for ues uniformly throughout the area that the ran serves. the ran assigns the ue to a device-type classification based on battery parameters or service type of the ue. the ran modifies scheduling of paging occasions to the ue, and others in a class that comprises the ue, based on the device-classification. the ue may submit to the ran defined types of traffic, paging occasions for which the ue should not skip. the ran may transmit in a paging skipping preemption search space an indication for the ue not to skip an upcoming configured paging occasion configured for skipping. the ran may configure the ue with a paging pattern to use when ue conditions change, such as when an idle ue moves into range of another ran.
