Instrument Delivery System With Antimicrobial Features - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240016427 titled 'Instrument Delivery System With Antimicrobial Features

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a device that includes a housing with a fluid conduit received within it. The fluid conduit has a proximal end and a distal end, with a portion of the proximal end coated with an antimicrobial coating. The device is designed to be advanced from a proximal position to a distal position, extending the distal end of the fluid conduit beyond the distal end of a catheter in an intravenous catheter assembly.

  • The device includes a housing with a fluid conduit received within it.
  • The fluid conduit has a proximal end and a distal end.
  • The proximal end of the fluid conduit has a portion coated with an antimicrobial coating.
  • The device can be advanced from a proximal position to a distal position.
  • In the distal position, the distal end of the fluid conduit extends beyond the distal end of a catheter in an intravenous catheter assembly.

Potential Applications:

  • Medical devices and equipment
  • Intravenous catheter assemblies
  • Fluid delivery systems

Problems Solved:

  • Reducing the risk of infection in intravenous catheter assemblies
  • Preventing the growth of microbes on the fluid conduit

Benefits:

  • Improved safety and reduced risk of infection in medical procedures
  • Enhanced antimicrobial properties to prevent the growth of microbes
  • Easy advancement of the fluid conduit within the housing for precise positioning

Original Abstract Submitted

provided herein is a device including a housing having a proximal end, a distal end, and a sidewall therebetween defining an interior, a fluid conduit displaceably received within the housing interior and having a proximal end and a distal end, the fluid conduit having a first conduit portion at the proximal end of the fluid conduit, at least a portion of the first conduit portion coated with an antimicrobial coating and a second conduit portion at the distal end of the fluid conduit, wherein the fluid conduit is configured to be advanced from a first, proximal position in which the second conduit portion does not extend beyond a distal end of a catheter of the intravenous catheter assembly to a second, distal position in which the second conduit portion extends beyond a distal end of a catheter of the intravenous catheter assembly.
