a head-mounted device may include a frame, a display coupled to the frame, a front head-engaging structure coupled to the frame, a retention mechanism configured to secure the front head-engaging structure to the head of the user, and one or more non-contact sensor(s) disposed on one or more of the frame, the display, the retention mechanism, and/or the front head-engaging structure. the non-contact sensor(s) may be configured to detect a measurement of the head of the user. in some examples, the measurement may include a head circumference, a size and/or shape of the head. in some examples, the head-mounted device may dynamically adjust a length of the retention mechanism based in part on the sensor data received from the one or more non-contact sensor(s).
