TRANSMISSION WINDOWS FOR PEER-TO-PEER COMMUNICATIONS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240381250 titled 'TRANSMISSION WINDOWS FOR PEER-TO-PEER COMMUNICATIONS

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes methods and apparatuses for enabling the efficient transmission of unmanaged traffic in a wireless local area network (WLAN) by establishing and utilizing time windows conducive to peer-to-peer (P2P) transmissions.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Determining a schedule of P2P transmission windows for non-AP STAs in a BSS.
  • Transmitting a message to STAs with parameters for the P2P transmission windows.
  • Instructing STAs to perform P2P transmissions during the designated windows.
  • Avoiding infrastructure communications during the P2P transmission windows.

Potential Applications: This technology can be applied in WLAN environments to optimize the transmission of unmanaged traffic, particularly P2P communications, improving network efficiency and performance.

Problems Solved: The technology addresses the challenge of managing unmanaged traffic in WLANs, specifically enabling efficient P2P transmissions without interference from infrastructure communications.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced network performance and efficiency.
  • Improved utilization of available bandwidth.
  • Facilitates seamless P2P communications in WLAN environments.

Commercial Applications: This technology could be valuable for companies providing WLAN solutions, network equipment manufacturers, and businesses looking to optimize their wireless network performance.

Prior Art: Readers interested in exploring prior art related to this technology may consider researching patents or publications in the field of WLAN optimization, P2P communications, and network traffic management.

Frequently Updated Research: Stay updated on the latest advancements in WLAN optimization, network traffic management, and P2P communication protocols to enhance the implementation and effectiveness of this technology.

Questions about WLAN Optimization: 1. How does this technology improve the efficiency of P2P transmissions in WLAN environments? 2. What are the key benefits of utilizing time windows for unmanaged traffic transmission in a WLAN?

Original Abstract Submitted

methods and apparatuses for facilitating establishment and use of a time window that is conducive to transmission of unmanaged traffic in a wireless local area network (wlan). a method performed by an access point (ap) comprises determining a schedule of one or more peer-to-peer (p2p) transmission windows that are time windows conducive to p2p transmissions by non-ap stas in a basic service set (bss) associated with the ap, transmitting, to the stas in the bss, a message including parameters for the schedule of p2p transmission windows and an indication that the stas should perform p2p transmissions during the p2p transmission windows, and avoiding infrastructure communications during the p2p transmission windows.
