INFRASTRUCTURE AND PEER-TO-PEER (P2P) MEDIUM ACCESS SHARING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240357650 titled 'INFRASTRUCTURE AND PEER-TO-PEER (P2P) MEDIUM ACCESS SHARING

The patent application describes a system for infrastructure and peer-to-peer (P2P) medium access sharing, where an access point (AP) assists associated stations (STAs) in accessing a channel. The AP can allocate channels for infrastructure and P2P communications during a transmit opportunity (TXOP).

  • The system enables an AP to assist STAs in accessing channels efficiently.
  • The AP can allocate subsets of channels for infrastructure and P2P communications based on available bandwidth.
  • The AP transmits signals to STAs to indicate which channels can be used for P2P communications during the TXOP.
  • This system optimizes channel access for both infrastructure and P2P communications.
      1. Potential Applications:

This technology can be applied in wireless networks, IoT devices, and communication systems where efficient channel allocation is crucial.

      1. Problems Solved:

- Efficient channel access for infrastructure and P2P communications. - Optimization of bandwidth allocation in wireless networks.

      1. Benefits:

- Improved network performance. - Enhanced communication efficiency. - Better utilization of available bandwidth.

      1. Commercial Applications:

This technology can be utilized in Wi-Fi routers, smart home devices, and industrial IoT systems to enhance communication reliability and speed.

      1. Questions about Infrastructure and Peer-to-Peer Medium Access Sharing:

1. How does this system improve channel access for both infrastructure and P2P communications?

  - The system optimizes channel allocation based on available bandwidth, ensuring efficient communication for both types of connections.

2. What are the potential applications of this technology beyond wireless networks?

  - This technology can be applied in various communication systems where efficient channel allocation is essential for optimal performance.

Original Abstract Submitted

some embodiments include an apparatus, method, and computer program product for infrastructure and peer-to-peer (p2p) medium access sharing. some embodiments enable an access point (ap) to assist associated stations (stas) in accessing a channel. in some embodiments, an ap can receive a request for coordinated transmission for peer-to-peer (p2p) communications, determine a bandwidth available for use during a transmit opportunity (txop), and allocate, from the bandwidth, a first subset of one or more channels for infrastructure communications and a second subset of one or more channels for the p2p communications responsive to the request. the ap can transmit to a sta, a first signal corresponding to the second subset of one or more channels for the p2p communications, indicating that the second subset of one or more channels can be used for p2p communications during the txop.
