TIRE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18579937 titled 'TIRE

The abstract describes a tire with specific groove configurations on the tread surface, including shoulder main grooves and widened main grooves.

  • The tire has a plurality of circumferential main grooves on the tread surface.
  • Among these grooves, the shoulder main grooves are located closest to the tread edges on each side in the tire width direction.
  • At least one of the shoulder main grooves is a normal main groove with a maximum groove width position only at the tread surface.
  • Another circumferential main groove, not a shoulder main groove, is a widened main groove with at least one maximum groove width position located on the groove bottom side than the tread surface position.

Potential Applications: - This tire design could be used in various vehicles, including cars, trucks, and motorcycles. - It may be beneficial for off-road or high-performance vehicles that require enhanced traction and stability.

Problems Solved: - The specific groove configurations help improve grip and handling on different road surfaces. - The design may enhance overall tire performance and longevity.

Benefits: - Increased traction and stability. - Improved handling and control. - Potential for longer tire lifespan.

Commercial Applications: Title: Innovative Tire Design for Enhanced Performance This tire technology could be marketed to automotive manufacturers, tire companies, and racing teams looking to improve vehicle performance and safety.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the groove configuration impact the tire's performance on wet surfaces? - The groove design helps channel water away from the tire, reducing the risk of hydroplaning and improving grip on wet roads. 2. What are the potential implications of using this tire design in motorsports? - This tire design could provide racers with better traction and control, potentially leading to improved lap times and overall performance.

Original Abstract Submitted

The tire of this disclosure is a tire comprising a plurality of circumferential main grooves on a tread surface , wherein when a pair of circumferential main grooves, located closest to tread edges on each side in the tire width direction among the plurality of circumferential main grooves , are referred to as shoulder main grooves and , at least one of the shoulder main grooves is a normal main groove configured such that a maximum groove width position in the groove depth direction is located only at a tread surface position, and at least one circumferential main groove other than the at least one shoulder main groove is a widened main groove configured such that at least one maximum groove width position in the groove depth direction is located on a groove bottom side than the tread surface position.
