CONNECTOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18294388 titled 'CONNECTOR

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a connector with a housing made of two parts, a terminal fitting, a locking lance, and a complete locking portion. The connector can be in a primarily locked state or a secondarily locked state to hold the terminal fitting securely.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Connector housing made of two parts
  • Resiliently deformable locking lance
  • Resiliently undeformable complete locking portion
  • Primarily locked state and secondarily locked state for holding the terminal fitting securely

Potential Applications: This technology can be used in various electrical and electronic devices that require secure connections, such as automotive components, consumer electronics, and industrial machinery.

Problems Solved: This technology addresses the need for both insertion resistance reduction and increased holding force in connectors, ensuring a reliable and secure connection.

Benefits:

  • Improved connection reliability
  • Enhanced holding force
  • Simplified assembly process

Commercial Applications: The technology can be applied in the manufacturing of various electronic devices, automotive components, and industrial machinery, improving the overall performance and reliability of the products.

Prior Art: Readers can explore prior patents related to connector housings, terminal fittings, and locking mechanisms in electrical connectors to understand the evolution of this technology.

Frequently Updated Research: Researchers may find updated studies on connector design, material science, and locking mechanisms in electrical connectors that could further enhance the performance of this technology.

Questions about Connector Technology: 1. What are the key features of the connector described in the patent application? 2. How does the technology in this connector improve upon existing connector designs?

Original Abstract Submitted

It is aimed to realize both an insertion resistance reduction and a holding force increase. A connector is provided with a connector housing configured by assembling a first housing and a second housing, a terminal fitting to be inserted into the connector housing, a resiliently deformable locking lance formed in the connector housing, and a resiliently undeformable complete locking portion formed in the connector housing. The both housings in an assembled state are displaceable to a primarily locked state where the complete locking portion is retracted to outside an insertion path for the terminal fitting and the terminal fitting is holdable in a retained state by the locking lance and a secondarily locked state where the locking lance is retracted to outside the insertion path for the terminal fitting and the terminal fitting is holdable in the retained state by the complete locking portion.
