UE, NETWORK NODE AND METHODS OF ASSISTING MEASUREMENTS IN MIXED SIGNAL CONFIGURATION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18754265 titled 'UE, NETWORK NODE AND METHODS OF ASSISTING MEASUREMENTS IN MIXED SIGNAL CONFIGURATION

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a method in a User Equipment (UE) for adapting a measurement procedure based on signal configurations of Downlink Reference Signals (DL RS) in neighboring cells.

  • The UE gathers information about signal configurations of DL RS in neighbor cells on a first carrier frequency.
  • Signal configurations include whether the DL RS is transmitted in every subframe of a cell or not.
  • The UE adjusts its measurement procedure based on this information, modifying measurement sampling and timing for radio measurements.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Adaptation of measurement procedure based on DL RS signal configurations in neighbor cells.
  • Differentiation between signal configurations where DL RS is transmitted in every subframe or not.
  • Adjustment of measurement sampling and timing for radio measurements based on obtained information.

Potential Applications: This technology can be applied in cellular networks to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of radio measurements in UEs.

Problems Solved:

  • Ensures optimal measurement procedures based on DL RS signal configurations.
  • Improves the reliability of radio measurements in varying signal environments.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced accuracy of radio measurements.
  • Improved network performance and efficiency.
  • Better adaptation to changing signal conditions.

Commercial Applications: Potential commercial applications include telecommunications companies, network equipment manufacturers, and providers of mobile devices looking to optimize radio measurement procedures in cellular networks.

Prior Art: Readers can explore prior patents related to adaptive measurement procedures in cellular networks and radio signal configurations to understand the existing technology landscape.

Questions about Adaptive Measurement Procedures in Cellular Networks: 1. What are the key factors influencing the adaptation of measurement procedures in cellular networks? 2. How does the adjustment of measurement sampling based on DL RS signal configurations improve radio measurement accuracy?

Original Abstract Submitted

A method in a UE for adapting a measurement procedure is provided. The UE obtains information about signal configurations that indicate whether or not a Downlink Reference Signal (DL RS) transmitted in neighbor cells on a first carrier frequency of a first carrier uses a first signal configuration or a second signal configuration. The first signal configuration comprises the DL RS not being transmitted in every subframe of a cell and the second signal configuration comprises the DL RS being transmitted in every subframe of a cell. The UE receives a DL RS in a serving cell of the UE on the first carrier frequency that uses the second signal configuration. The UE adapts the measurement procedure based on the obtained information by adapting a measurement sampling or an instance when the UE shall obtain samples for one or more types of radio measurements.
