IMAGE-BASED DETECTION USING DISTANCE DATA - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18132145 titled 'IMAGE-BASED DETECTION USING DISTANCE DATA

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a system for detecting motion and objects in images using distance data. It involves generating a distance map from an image to determine the distance between features in the area and the camera. Reactions are then triggered based on the motion and objects detected within different distance reaction zones.

  • Utilizes distance data to detect motion and objects in images
  • Generates a distance map from an image to determine distances between features and the camera
  • Triggers reactions based on detected motion and objects within different distance reaction zones
  • Customizable reaction rules determine the reactions triggered
  • Suggestions for distance reaction zones and rules based on similarities with other monitored areas

Potential Applications: 1. Surveillance systems for detecting intruders or suspicious activity 2. Automated security systems for homes and businesses 3. Object tracking in industrial settings for safety and efficiency 4. Monitoring systems for wildlife conservation and research 5. Traffic monitoring and management applications

Problems Solved: 1. Enhances the accuracy and efficiency of motion and object detection in images 2. Provides customizable reaction rules for different scenarios 3. Improves security and surveillance systems with distance-based reactions 4. Enables automated monitoring and tracking of objects in various environments

Benefits: 1. Increased accuracy in detecting motion and objects in images 2. Customizable reactions based on distance data for different applications 3. Enhanced security and surveillance capabilities 4. Improved efficiency in monitoring and tracking objects 5. Potential for automated responses to detected motion and objects

Commercial Applications: Automated Surveillance System with Distance-Based Reactions: Enhance security systems for homes, businesses, and public spaces by implementing a system that can detect motion and objects in images using distance data to trigger appropriate reactions.

Questions about Motion and Object Detection: 1. How does the system determine the distance between features in the area and the camera? 2. What are the customizable reaction rules based on in the system?

2. Another relevant generic question, with a detailed answer. How does the system differentiate between different distance reaction zones to trigger appropriate reactions?

Original Abstract Submitted

Systems, apparatuses, and methods are described for detecting motion and/or objects in images using distance data. An image of an area to be monitored may be used to generate a distance map that maps distances between features in the area and a camera that took the image. Different reactions may be performed based on motion and/or objects detected in images from the camera and determined to be within different distance reaction zones relative to the camera. The different distance reaction zones and reactions may be based on customizable reaction rules. The distance reaction zones and/or reaction rules may be suggested based on similarities between the area to be monitored and other monitored areas.
