DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18515966 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE

The abstract of the patent application describes a display device with a substrate containing a light emitting area and a non-light emitting area, light control patterns, a common electrode, a light blocking layer, a solvent layer, electrophoretic particles, and a first control electrode.

  • Light control patterns are spaced apart on the substrate.
  • A common electrode is placed on the light control patterns.
  • A light blocking layer overlaps the non-light emitting area.
  • Electrophoretic particles are dispersed in the solvent layer and movable horizontally.
  • A first control electrode overlaps the non-light emitting area.
    • Potential Applications:**

This technology could be used in electronic displays, e-readers, smart devices, and signage.

    • Problems Solved:**

The technology addresses the need for efficient and customizable display devices with improved visibility and contrast.

    • Benefits:**

The benefits of this technology include enhanced display quality, energy efficiency, and versatility in design.

    • Commercial Applications:**

This technology could be applied in consumer electronics, advertising displays, digital signage, and other display applications.

    • Questions about the Technology:**

1. How does the movement of electrophoretic particles contribute to the display quality? 2. What are the advantages of using a light blocking layer in this display technology?

Original Abstract Submitted

A display device includes: a substrate on which a light emitting area and a non-light emitting area adjacent to the light emitting area are defined, a plurality of light control patterns disposed on the substrate and spaced apart from each other, a common electrode disposed on the plurality of light control patterns, a light blocking layer disposed on the common electrode and overlapping the non-light emitting area, a solvent layer disposed between the common electrode and the light blocking layer, a plurality of electrophoretic particles dispersed in the solvent layer and movable in a horizontal direction of the substrate, and a first control electrode disposed between the common electrode and the light blocking layer, and overlapping the non-light emitting area.
