DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18754489 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE

Simplified Explanation:

The patent application describes a display device with an input sensor that has alternating inorganic and organic insulating layers, along with sensing electrodes, arranged in a specific pattern.

  • The input sensor on the display panel consists of first areas with inorganic insulating layers, second areas with both inorganic and organic insulating layers, and sensing electrodes.
  • The first and second areas are arranged alternately in a specific direction, with openings in the second areas created by removing parts of the inorganic insulating layer.
  • The design allows for precise touch input detection on the display panel.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Alternating inorganic and organic insulating layers in the input sensor.
  • Specific arrangement of first and second areas for touch input detection.
  • Openings in the second areas for improved sensitivity.

Potential Applications:

The technology can be used in various touch-sensitive display devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and interactive kiosks.

Problems Solved:

The technology addresses the need for accurate and responsive touch input detection on display panels.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced touch sensitivity and accuracy.
  • Improved user experience with touch input devices.

Commercial Applications:

Potential commercial applications include consumer electronics, interactive displays in public spaces, and industrial control panels.

Questions about Display Device Technology:

1. How does the alternating inorganic and organic insulating layers improve touch input detection? 2. What are the specific advantages of the design with openings in the second areas for touch sensitivity?

Original Abstract Submitted

A display device includes a display panel and an input sensor disposed on the display panel. The input sensor includes a plurality of first areas repeatedly arranged in a first direction, a plurality of second areas repeatedly arranged in the first direction, an inorganic insulating layer disposed in the first areas, an organic insulating layer disposed in the first areas and the second areas, and a sensing electrode disposed on the organic insulating layer. The first areas are alternately arranged in the first direction with the second areas, and the input sensor includes openings in the second areas that are formed by removing portions of the inorganic insulating layer from the second areas.
