PHASE-CHANGE MEMORY CONTROLLER CAPABLE OF REDUCING WRITE POWER AND PHASE-CHANGE MEMORY SYSTEM INCLUDING SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18490685 titled 'PHASE-CHANGE MEMORY CONTROLLER CAPABLE OF REDUCING WRITE POWER AND PHASE-CHANGE MEMORY SYSTEM INCLUDING SAME

The abstract describes a phase-change memory controller that manages a phase-change memory device by compressing write data and padding it with zeros before writing it to the memory device.

  • The write control circuit of the phase-change memory controller receives first write data of "N" bits and generates second write data composed of compressed data with "M" bits and zero padding data.
  • The compressed data is created by filling the rest of the "N-M" bits with zeros to optimize storage efficiency.
  • This innovation allows for more efficient use of memory space by compressing data before writing it to the phase-change memory device.
  • The controller helps improve the performance and reliability of the phase-change memory device by optimizing the data storage process.
  • By compressing and padding the write data, the controller enhances the overall functionality and efficiency of the phase-change memory system.

Potential Applications: - Data storage systems - Embedded systems - IoT devices

Problems Solved: - Efficient use of memory space - Improved performance and reliability of phase-change memory devices

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the phase-change memory controller optimize data storage efficiency? - The controller compresses write data and pads it with zeros to reduce the amount of memory space required for storage. 2. What impact does this innovation have on the performance of phase-change memory devices? - By optimizing the data storage process, the controller enhances the overall performance and reliability of the memory devices.

Original Abstract Submitted

A phase-change memory controller controls a phase-change memory device. The phase-change memory controller includes a write control circuit configured to receive first write data of “N” bits (where “N” is a natural number greater than 2) to be written to the phase-change memory device to generate second write data composed of compressed data compressed with “M” bits (where “N” is a natural number smaller than “N”) and “0” padding data in which the rest “N-M” bits are filled with “0”.
