UE, NETWORK NODE AND METHODS OF ASSISTING MEASUREMENTS IN MIXED SIGNAL CONFIGURATION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240348410 titled 'UE, NETWORK NODE AND METHODS OF ASSISTING MEASUREMENTS IN MIXED SIGNAL CONFIGURATION

Simplified Explanation:

This patent application describes a method for adapting a measurement procedure in a user equipment (UE) based on signal configurations of downlink reference signals (DL RS) transmitted in neighboring cells on a first carrier frequency. The UE adjusts its measurement procedure by analyzing whether the DL RS in the serving cell uses a specific signal configuration.

  • The UE gathers information about signal configurations of DL RS in neighboring cells.
  • It determines if the DL RS in the serving cell uses a different signal configuration.
  • The measurement procedure of the UE is modified based on this analysis.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Adaptation of measurement procedure based on signal configurations of DL RS in neighboring cells.
  • Ability to differentiate between different signal configurations of DL RS for optimization.
  • Enhancing radio measurements by adjusting measurement sampling based on signal configurations.

Potential Applications:

This technology can be applied in cellular networks to improve the efficiency of radio measurements and enhance network performance.

Problems Solved:

  • Addressing inconsistencies in DL RS signal configurations across neighboring cells.
  • Optimizing measurement procedures for better network management.

Benefits:

  • Improved accuracy of radio measurements.
  • Enhanced network optimization.
  • Better overall network performance.

Commercial Applications:

Optimizing radio measurements in cellular networks can lead to improved network efficiency, better user experience, and reduced interference, making it valuable for network operators and equipment manufacturers.

Questions about the Technology:

1. How does this technology impact the overall performance of cellular networks? 2. What are the potential challenges in implementing this method in real-world network environments?

Frequently Updated Research:

Stay updated on the latest advancements in radio measurement optimization and network management techniques to ensure the most effective implementation of this technology.

Original Abstract Submitted

a method in a ue for adapting a measurement procedure is provided. the ue obtains information about signal configurations that indicate whether or not a downlink reference signal (dl rs) transmitted in neighbor cells on a first carrier frequency of a first carrier uses a first signal configuration or a second signal configuration. the first signal configuration comprises the dl rs not being transmitted in every subframe of a cell and the second signal configuration comprises the dl rs being transmitted in every subframe of a cell. the ue receives a dl rs in a serving cell of the ue on the first carrier frequency that uses the second signal configuration. the ue adapts the measurement procedure based on the obtained information by adapting a measurement sampling or an instance when the ue shall obtain samples for one or more types of radio measurements.
