METHOD FOR SETTING MOTION VECTOR LIST AND APPARATUS USING SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18749097 titled 'METHOD FOR SETTING MOTION VECTOR LIST AND APPARATUS USING SAME

Simplified Explanation:

The patent application describes a method for setting motion vector lists by determining the presence of motion vectors in spatial candidate prediction groups and setting them as candidate prediction motion vectors.

  • Sequential determination process used to identify first or second motion vectors
  • Candidate prediction motion vectors set based on the sequential determination process
  • Reduction in encoding/decoding time and complexity by limiting the scaling number during scanning of candidate prediction motion vectors

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Sequential determination process for identifying motion vectors
  • Efficient setting of candidate prediction motion vectors
  • Reduction in encoding/decoding time and complexity

Potential Applications:

This technology can be applied in video encoding and decoding processes, especially in applications where motion vectors play a crucial role in predicting subsequent frames.

Problems Solved:

  • Streamlining the process of setting motion vectors
  • Improving efficiency in encoding and decoding tasks

Benefits:

  • Faster encoding/decoding time
  • Reduced complexity in video processing tasks

Commercial Applications:

Optimized video encoding and decoding systems for industries such as broadcasting, streaming services, surveillance, and video conferencing.

Questions about Motion Vector List Setting:

1. How does the sequential determination process help in setting motion vectors efficiently? 2. What are the potential implications of reducing encoding/decoding time in video processing tasks?

Original Abstract Submitted

A method for setting the motion vector list and the apparatus using the same may include determining the presence of a first motion vector or a second motion vector by a sequential determination process in a first spatial candidate prediction group; and setting the first motion vector or the second motion vector produced through the sequential determination process as the candidate prediction motion vector. Thus, the encoding/decoding time and the complexity can be reduced by restricting the scaling number in a process for scanning the candidate prediction motion vector.
