VEHICLE CONTROL DEVICE, VEHICLE CONTROL METHOD AND PROGRAM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18627551 titled 'VEHICLE CONTROL DEVICE, VEHICLE CONTROL METHOD AND PROGRAM

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a vehicle control device that assists in changing lanes by considering the distance and speed of rear vehicles to prevent interference.

  • The device shortens the time from deciding to change lanes to actually making the lane change based on the speed and distance of the rear vehicle.
  • It automatically changes lanes from the current lane to an adjacent lane when specific conditions are met.

Key Features and Innovation

  • Vehicle control device for lane change assist control.
  • Considers relative distance and speed between own vehicle and rear vehicle.
  • Shortens time from decision to lane change based on rear vehicle speed and distance.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in:

  • Advanced driver assistance systems.
  • Autonomous vehicles.
  • Traffic management systems.

Problems Solved

  • Prevents interference with rear vehicles during lane changes.
  • Enhances safety and efficiency of lane change maneuvers.
  • Improves overall driving experience for the driver.

Benefits

  • Increased safety on the road.
  • Smoother and more efficient lane changes.
  • Reduced risk of accidents and collisions.

Commercial Applications

  • This technology can be integrated into vehicles to enhance their safety features.
  • It can be marketed to automotive manufacturers for inclusion in new vehicle models.
  • Potential applications in the development of autonomous vehicles.

Questions about Lane Change Assist Control

How does the vehicle control device determine when to initiate a lane change?

The device considers the relative distance and speed between the own vehicle and the rear vehicle to decide when to start the lane change.

What are the potential implications of this technology on road safety?

This technology can significantly enhance road safety by preventing collisions and accidents during lane changes.

Original Abstract Submitted

To effectively prevent the traveling of the rear vehicles from being interfered by LCA of the own vehicle, provided is a vehicle control device configured to execute a lane change assist control for automatically changing a lane from a lane traveling on a own vehicle to a target lane adjacent to the lane. The vehicle control device is configured to obtain a relative distance and a relative speed between the own vehicle and a rear vehicle traveling behind the one vehicle, and shorten the time from the establishment of the specific condition for permitting the execution of the lane change assist control to the start of the lane change, when the relative distance is shorter and/or a speed of the rear vehicle is higher than a speed of the own vehicle and the relative speed is larger.
