PORTABLE DISPLAY DEVICE AND CONTROL METHOD FOR THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240348883 titled 'PORTABLE DISPLAY DEVICE AND CONTROL METHOD FOR THE SAME

The abstract describes a portable display device with a controller that can store and switch between different videos based on the rotation state of the display.

  • The device includes a display and a controller.
  • The controller stores paths for two videos related to different rotation states of the display.
  • It detects changes in the rotation state during video playback.
  • The controller pauses the current video and switches to the second video based on the detected rotation state.
  • Playback of the second video starts at a specific time based on the stored playback time of the first video.

Potential Applications: - This technology could be used in portable media players or handheld devices. - It could enhance user experience by seamlessly switching between videos based on device orientation.

Problems Solved: - The device addresses the challenge of adapting video playback to different rotation states of the display. - It provides a smooth transition between videos based on the device's orientation.

Benefits: - Improved user experience with automatic video switching. - Enhanced versatility for viewing content in different display orientations.

Commercial Applications: - This technology could be valuable for companies developing portable entertainment devices. - It may also be useful for manufacturers of handheld gaming consoles.

Prior Art: - Prior art related to this technology may include research on adaptive video playback based on device orientation.

Frequently Updated Research: - Researchers may be exploring ways to optimize video playback based on real-time changes in device orientation.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the controller determine the playback start time for the second video? 2. What are the potential challenges in implementing this technology in different types of portable devices?

Original Abstract Submitted

disclosed herein is a portable display device. the portable display device may include: a display; and a controller. the controller is configured to: store a storage path of a first video and a storage path of a second video, wherein the first and second videos are related to at least two rotation states of the display; detect a change in a rotation state of the display during playback of the first video; store a video playback time at a moment at which the rotation state of the display changes; pause the playback of the first video that is currently playing; and control the second video to be played at a playback start time based on the storage path of the second video related to the detected rotation state, wherein the playback start time is determined based on the stored video playback time.
