MOBILE ROBOT - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240335080 titled 'MOBILE ROBOT

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a mobile robot that can detect impacts and create virtual walls on a map based on the impact location.

  • The mobile robot estimates a virtual wall-registerable area with multiple cells based on the impact sensing signal.
  • It registers one of the cells in the virtual wall-registerable area as a virtual wall on the map according to registration priority.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Impact sensing signal triggers the robot to create virtual walls.
  • Virtual walls are registered based on the impact location.
  • Multiple cells are considered for the virtual wall-registerable area.

Potential Applications: This technology can be used in:

  • Autonomous cleaning robots.
  • Warehouse robots for navigation.
  • Security robots for patrolling.

Problems Solved:

  • Efficient mapping of areas.
  • Enhanced navigation capabilities for robots.
  • Improved safety features for robots.

Benefits:

  • Accurate mapping of environments.
  • Enhanced obstacle avoidance.
  • Increased efficiency in robot operations.

Commercial Applications: Potential commercial uses include:

  • Robotics companies for developing advanced robot navigation systems.
  • Facilities management companies for automated cleaning solutions.
  • Security companies for autonomous patrolling robots.

Questions about Mobile Robot Virtual Wall Creation: 1. How does the mobile robot determine the registration priority for virtual walls? 2. What are the specific sensors used for impact detection in the mobile robot?

2. Another relevant generic question, with a detailed answer: How does the creation of virtual walls enhance the overall functionality of the mobile robot? Creating virtual walls allows the robot to navigate more efficiently and avoid obstacles effectively, improving its overall performance and safety.

Original Abstract Submitted

the present invention relates to a mobile robot which, if an impact sensing signal is input, estimates a virtual wall-registerable area including a plurality of cells on the basis of the position where the impact sensing signal is input, and registers one of the plurality of cells in the virtual wall-registerable area as a virtual wall on the map according to registration priority.
