BATTERY MODULE - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240332596 titled 'BATTERY MODULE
The abstract of this patent application describes a battery module that includes a battery cell stack with plate-shaped members and a buffer material filled with fluid between the battery cells and plate-shaped members.
- The battery module includes a battery cell stack with plate-shaped members on both ends.
- A buffer material filled with fluid is provided between the battery cells and plate-shaped members.
- The buffer material has a stretchable member with different regions, including a first region with a higher Young's modulus and a second region with a lower Young's modulus.
- The outer peripheral portion of the stretchable member includes the first region at least at a portion of the outer peripheral portion.
- The buffer material helps absorb shocks and vibrations, protecting the battery cells from damage.
Potential Applications: - Electric vehicles - Energy storage systems - Portable electronic devices
Problems Solved: - Protecting battery cells from damage due to shocks and vibrations - Improving the overall durability and lifespan of battery modules
Benefits: - Enhanced safety and reliability of battery modules - Increased efficiency and performance of battery systems - Cost-effective solution for battery protection

Original Abstract Submitted
a battery module includes a battery cell stack including a plurality of battery cells stacked therein, a pair of plate-shaped members provided on both ends of the battery cell stack in a stacking direction, and a buffer material provided between the plurality of battery cells and/or between the battery cell and the plate-shaped member. the buffer material includes a stretchable member filled with a fluid. the stretchable member includes a first region including a region that does not face the battery cell, and a second region connected to the first region and having a young's modulus lower than that of the first region. when viewed from a top of the battery cell in the stacking direction, the outer peripheral portion of the stretchable member includes the first region at least at a portion of the outer peripheral portion.
