SEAMLESS AUTOMATIC REPEAT REQUEST (ARQ) CONTENT STREAMING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240333789 titled 'SEAMLESS AUTOMATIC REPEAT REQUEST (ARQ) CONTENT STREAMING

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes systems and methods for providing a seamless automatic repeat request (ARQ) stream. This involves a setup with multiple streaming servers, a load balancer, and an ARQ streaming service. The service sends encoded content segments to the servers, which then transmit them to a client device. If a server fails, the ARQ service switches to another server to retransmit lost segments.

  • The system involves multiple streaming servers, a load balancer, and an ARQ streaming service.
  • Encoded content segments are sent to the servers by the ARQ streaming service.
  • Servers transmit the segments to a client device, with a load balancer managing the connection.
  • If a server fails, the ARQ service switches to another server to retransmit lost segments.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in various streaming services, online gaming platforms, and video conferencing systems where seamless transmission of data is crucial.

Problems Solved

The technology addresses issues related to data loss during streaming, ensuring a continuous and uninterrupted viewing experience for users.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include improved reliability in data transmission, reduced interruptions in streaming services, and enhanced user experience.

Commercial Applications

The technology can be utilized in streaming platforms, online gaming services, and video conferencing applications to provide a more reliable and seamless streaming experience for users.

Questions about the Technology

How does the ARQ streaming service identify failures in the streaming servers?

The ARQ streaming service identifies failures in the streaming servers by monitoring the response messages from the client device and detecting any inconsistencies or errors in the data transmission.

What measures are in place to ensure a smooth transition between streaming servers in case of failure?

In case of a failure in a streaming server, the ARQ streaming service seamlessly switches to another server by rerouting the data transmission path, ensuring minimal disruption in the streaming process.

Original Abstract Submitted

systems and methods for providing a seamless automatic repeat request (arq) stream are provided. the system can include a plurality of streaming servers, a load balancer, and an arq streaming service. the arq streaming service obtains encoded content segments and transmits the segments to a plurality of streaming servers. the plurality of streaming servers is configured to transmit the encoded content segments to a client computing device, and a load balancer is implemented between the client computing device and the plurality of streaming servers. when the client computing device sends a response message to the arq streaming service while receiving the encoded content segments from one of the plurality of streaming servers, the arq streaming service may identify a failure in the streaming server. the arq streaming service retransmits lost encoded content segments by switching the streaming path to another streaming server from the plurality of streaming servers.
