PREDICTING LOWER BODY MOVEMENT FOR AVATARS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240331250 titled 'PREDICTING LOWER BODY MOVEMENT FOR AVATARS

The abstract describes a method for predicting lower body motion of an avatar by generating an upper body avatar for a user, tracking the user's lower body posture, retargeting it to a lower body model, and merging it with the upper body avatar to create a full-body avatar.

  • Generation of an upper body avatar for a user wearing a headset
  • Tracking of the user's lower body posture
  • Retargeting the lower body posture to a lower body model
  • Merging the lower body model with the upper body avatar to form a full-body avatar
  • System includes a memory storing instructions and a processor executing the method

Potential Applications: - Virtual reality gaming - Physical therapy and rehabilitation - Fitness and exercise programs - Virtual meetings and conferences - Animation and film production

Problems Solved: - Providing a realistic full-body avatar representation in virtual environments - Enhancing user experience in virtual reality applications - Improving motion tracking accuracy

Benefits: - Enhanced immersion and realism in virtual environments - Improved user engagement and interaction - Precise tracking of lower body movements - Versatile applications in various industries - Potential for personalized avatar creation

Commercial Applications: Title: "Virtual Reality Avatar Motion Prediction Technology" This technology can be utilized in virtual reality gaming, fitness applications, animation studios, virtual meetings, and physical therapy centers. It has the potential to revolutionize user experiences in virtual environments and enhance the quality of motion tracking in various industries.

Questions about Virtual Reality Avatar Motion Prediction Technology: 1. How does this technology improve user engagement in virtual reality applications? 2. What are the potential limitations of accurately predicting lower body motion in avatars?

Original Abstract Submitted

a method for predicting a lower body motion of an avatar is provided. the method includes generating an upper body avatar for a user of a headset, tracking a lower body posture of the user of the headset, retargeting the lower body posture to a lower body model, and merging the lower body model with the upper body avatar to form a full-body avatar for the user of the headset. a system including a memory storing instructions and a processor configured to execute the instructions and cause the system to perform the above method is also provided.
