RADIATION THERAPY SYSTEM AND METHOD - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18669510 titled 'RADIATION THERAPY SYSTEM AND METHOD
The present disclosure discusses a system and method involving a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) apparatus and a therapeutic apparatus.
- The system includes an MRI apparatus that acquires MRI data for a region of interest (ROI) and a therapeutic apparatus that applies therapeutic radiation to at least one portion of the ROI.
- The MRI apparatus consists of main magnetic coils and shielding magnetic coils arranged coaxially along an axis within a cryostat.
Potential Applications:
- Medical imaging and therapy for targeted treatment of specific regions within the body.
- Precision medicine for personalized healthcare interventions.
- Research and development in the field of medical imaging and therapeutic applications.
Problems Solved:
- Enables simultaneous imaging and treatment of a specific area within the body.
- Provides real-time feedback on the effectiveness of therapeutic radiation delivery.
- Enhances the accuracy and efficiency of medical procedures.
Benefits:
- Minimizes the need for multiple imaging and treatment sessions.
- Reduces the risk of errors in targeting treatment areas.
- Improves patient outcomes and overall healthcare efficiency.
Commercial Applications:
- Medical device manufacturing companies can develop integrated MRI and therapeutic systems for healthcare facilities.
- Hospitals and clinics can offer advanced imaging and treatment services to patients.
- Research institutions can utilize the technology for cutting-edge medical research projects.
Questions about the Technology: 1. How does the integration of MRI and therapeutic radiation benefit patient care?
- The integration allows for precise targeting of treatment areas while monitoring the response in real-time.
2. What are the potential challenges in implementing this technology in clinical settings?
- Challenges may include the cost of equipment, training requirements for healthcare professionals, and regulatory approvals.
Original Abstract Submitted
The present disclosure relates to a system and a method. The system may include a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) apparatus configured to acquire MRI data with respect to a region of interest (ROI) and a therapeutic apparatus configured to apply therapeutic radiation to at least one portion of the ROI. The MRI apparatus may include a plurality of main magnetic coils arranged coaxially along an axis, a plurality of shielding magnetic coils arranged coaxially along the axis, and a cryostat in which the plurality of main magnetic coils and the plurality of shielding magnetic coils are arranged.
