IMAGE DATA ENCODING/DECODING METHOD AND APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18673250 titled 'IMAGE DATA ENCODING/DECODING METHOD AND APPARATUS

The patent application describes methods and apparatuses for decoding an image using a recursive division structure.

  • The method involves receiving a bitstream obtained by encoding the image, dividing a first coding block into multiple second coding blocks, generating a prediction block based on syntax information from the bitstream, and reconstructing the second coding block using the prediction block and a residual block obtained through dequantization and inverse-transform.
  • The first coding block is divided based on quad tree, binary tree, or triple tree division structures.
  • The innovation allows for efficient decoding of images by recursively dividing coding blocks and generating prediction blocks based on syntax information.
  • By reconstructing coding blocks using prediction blocks and residual blocks, the method enhances image quality and compression efficiency.
  • The use of different tree division structures provides flexibility in how coding blocks are divided and processed during decoding.

Original Abstract Submitted

Disclosed are methods and apparatuses for decoding an image. A method includes receiving a bitstream obtained by encoding the image; dividing a first coding block into a plurality of second coding blocks; generating a prediction block of a second coding block based on syntax information obtained from the bitstream; and reconstructing the second coding block based on the prediction block and a residual block of the second coding block, the residual block being obtained by performing a dequantization and an inverse-transform on quantized transform coefficients from the bitstream. The first coding block has a recursive division structure. The first coding block is divided based on at least one of a quad tree division, a binary tree division or a triple tree division.
