METHOD FOR OPERATING A MACHINE TOOL AND/OR PRODUCTION MACHINE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18576952 titled 'METHOD FOR OPERATING A MACHINE TOOL AND/OR PRODUCTION MACHINE

Simplified Explanation:

This patent application describes a method for operating a machine tool or production machine where the tool is retracted to a safe position when the feed rate is below a certain threshold, ensuring it does not touch the workpiece.

  • Key Features and Innovation:
   * Tool retracts when feed rate is below defined threshold
   * Prevents tool from touching workpiece during operation
   * Enhances safety and prevents damage to workpiece

Potential Applications: This technology can be applied in various manufacturing industries where precision machining is required, such as automotive, aerospace, and medical device manufacturing.

Problems Solved: This technology addresses the issue of accidental contact between the tool and workpiece due to low feed rates, which can lead to damage to the workpiece or tool breakage.

Benefits: The main benefits of this technology include improved safety, reduced risk of damage to workpieces, and increased efficiency in machining operations.

Commercial Applications: Title: Enhanced Safety Mechanism for Machine Tools in Manufacturing Industry This technology can be commercially used in CNC machining centers, milling machines, lathes, and other production machines to improve safety and efficiency in manufacturing processes.

Prior Art: Readers can explore prior art related to safety mechanisms in machine tools, feed rate control systems, and tool retraction systems in manufacturing equipment.

Frequently Updated Research: Researchers are constantly developing new safety features and automation technologies for machine tools to enhance productivity and safety in manufacturing environments.

Questions about Machine Tool Safety: 1. How does this technology improve safety in machining operations? 2. What are the potential applications of this safety mechanism in different industries?

Original Abstract Submitted

In a method for operating a machine tool and/or production machine which includes a spindle and a tool for processing a workpiece, the tool is moved, when the spindle rotates and a feed rate of the tool is below a defined feed rate, to a retracted position such that the tool no longer touches the workpiece.
