AQUEOUS PRESSURE-SENSITIVE ADHESIVE COMPOSITION FOR RECYCLING-COMPATIBLE PRESSURE-SENSITIVE ADHESIVE LABELS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18578033 titled 'AQUEOUS PRESSURE-SENSITIVE ADHESIVE COMPOSITION FOR RECYCLING-COMPATIBLE PRESSURE-SENSITIVE ADHESIVE LABELS

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes an aqueous pressure-sensitive adhesive composition for recycling-compatible pressure-sensitive adhesive labels. The composition includes a pressure-sensitive adhesive polymer and a tackifier with a low glass transition temperature.

  • The adhesive composition is suitable for creating labels that can be easily recycled.
  • The pressure-sensitive adhesive polymer is produced through emulsion polymerization of acrylic acid alkyl ester monomers and additional monomers.
  • The tackifier used in the composition has a glass transition temperature of less than 5°C.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Aqueous pressure-sensitive adhesive composition for recycling-compatible labels.
  • Use of pressure-sensitive adhesive polymer from emulsion polymerization.
  • Tackifier with low glass transition temperature for improved adhesive properties.

Potential Applications: The technology can be used in the production of recyclable pressure-sensitive adhesive labels for various packaging applications.

Problems Solved: The technology addresses the need for environmentally friendly adhesive solutions for labels that can be easily recycled.

Benefits:

  • Enables the production of recycling-compatible labels.
  • Reduces environmental impact by promoting recycling of packaging materials.

Commercial Applications: The technology can be applied in industries such as packaging, labeling, and recycling to create sustainable and eco-friendly products.

Questions about Aqueous Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive Composition: 1. How does the glass transition temperature of the tackifier impact the adhesive properties? 2. What are the specific benefits of using an aqueous pressure-sensitive adhesive composition for recycling-compatible labels?

Original Abstract Submitted

An aqueous pressure-sensitive adhesive composition for recycling-compatible pressure-sensitive adhesive labels is described. The adhesive composition comprises (A) a pressure-sensitive adhesive polymer made by emulsion polymerization of acrylic acid alkyl ester monomers and further monomers, and (B) a tackifier with a glass transition temperature of less than 5° C. Also described are recycling-compatible pressure-sensitive adhesive labels, packaging containers labelled with said labels and a method of recycling said labelled packaging containers.
