IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18608541 titled 'IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

A shutter moves between open and closed positions to cover or expose a fuser nip. A link connected to the shutter is also attached to a cartridge, moving the shutter when the cartridge is attached to the main body of an apparatus. The link separates from the cartridge before the shutter fully opens, allowing the shutter to reach the open position.

Key Features and Innovation

  • Shutter moves between open and closed positions to cover or expose a fuser nip.
  • Link connected to the shutter is also attached to a cartridge.
  • Shutter moves when the cartridge is attached to the main body of an apparatus.
  • Link separates from the cartridge before the shutter fully opens.

Potential Applications

This technology could be used in printers, copiers, or other devices with fuser nips that need to be covered or exposed.

Problems Solved

This technology ensures that the shutter moves correctly when the cartridge is attached to the apparatus, preventing any potential issues with the fuser nip exposure.

Benefits

  • Efficient operation of devices with fuser nips.
  • Prevents potential malfunctions related to shutter movement.
  • Ensures proper coverage and exposure of the fuser nip.

Commercial Applications

  • Printers
  • Copiers
  • Office equipment

Questions about the Technology

How does the link mechanism ensure proper movement of the shutter?

The link mechanism is designed to move the shutter between open and closed positions accurately, ensuring the fuser nip is covered or exposed as needed.

What are the potential benefits of using this technology in office equipment?

The technology can improve the efficiency and reliability of devices with fuser nips, reducing the risk of malfunctions and ensuring proper operation.

Original Abstract Submitted

A shutter moves between a closed position at which the shutter covers a nip of a fuser and an open position at which the nip is exposed. A link contacts a cartridge. The link is coupled to the shutter and moves the shutter between the open position and the closed position. The link is movable between a first position at which the cartridge is not attached to an apparatus main body and a second position at which the cartridge is attached to the apparatus main body. When the cartridge being attached to the apparatus main body contacts the link, the shutter moves from the closed position toward the open position. Before the shutter reaches the open position, the link and the cartridge separate from each other. The link having separated from the cartridge moves further in a direction in which the shutter becomes the open position.
