CONNECTOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18574416 titled 'CONNECTOR

Simplified Explanation: The connector described in the patent application has a retainer that can move between temporary and complete locking positions. The retainer has a locking lance and a complete locking portion to secure a terminal fitting in a housing.

  • The retainer has a locking lance that temporarily holds the terminal fitting in place by deforming to allow insertion into the housing.
  • The complete locking portion has a higher stiffness than the locking lance and secures the terminal fitting in the housing once fully inserted.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Resiliently deformable locking lance for temporary retention of terminal fitting.
  • Complete locking portion with higher stiffness for secure locking of terminal fitting.
  • Retainer can move between temporary and complete locking positions.

Potential Applications: The connector design can be used in various electronic devices, automotive applications, and industrial equipment where secure connections are required.

Problems Solved: This technology addresses the need for a reliable and secure method of connecting terminals in a housing.

Benefits:

  • Ensures a secure connection of terminal fittings.
  • Easy insertion and removal of terminal fittings.
  • Reliable performance in various applications.

Commercial Applications: The connector design can be utilized in the manufacturing of electronic devices, automotive components, and industrial machinery, enhancing the reliability of connections and reducing the risk of disconnections.

Prior Art: Readers can explore prior art related to connector designs, terminal fittings, and locking mechanisms in electrical and mechanical engineering fields.

Frequently Updated Research: Stay updated on advancements in connector technology, terminal fitting designs, and locking mechanisms in the electrical and mechanical engineering industries.

Questions about Connector Technology: 1. What are the key features of the connector described in the patent application? 2. How does the connector design improve the reliability of terminal connections in various applications?

Original Abstract Submitted

A connector includes a terminal fitting to be inserted into a terminal accommodation chamber of a housing and a retainer attached to the housing and displaceable between a temporary locking position and a complete locking position. The retainer is formed with a resiliently deformable locking lance arranged to face the terminal accommodation chambers at the temporary locking position and a complete locking portion arranged to face the terminal accommodation chamber at the complete locking position and having a higher stiffness than the locking lance. The locking lance allows insertion of the terminal fitting into the terminal accommodation chamber by being resiliently deformed and temporarily holds the terminal fitting in a retained state by locking the terminal fitting in the terminal accommodation chamber. The complete locking portion holds the terminal fitting in a retained state by locking the terminal fitting inserted into the terminal accommodation chamber.
