BATTERY PACK - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18611048 titled 'BATTERY PACK

The patent application describes a battery pack with a temperature measuring sensor that extends from outside the housing to inside by passing through a mounting hole, along with a sealing member to ensure proper insulation.

  • The temperature measuring sensor includes a pillar part, a locking jaw member, and an expansion part to cover the mounting hole, providing accurate temperature readings.
  • The locking jaw member extends along both the axial and crossing directions, providing an elastic bias force to secure the sensor in place.
  • The sealing member surrounds the mounting hole and ensures a tight seal between the sensor and the housing, preventing any leaks or damage.

Potential Applications: - This technology can be used in electric vehicles to monitor the temperature of the battery cells and prevent overheating. - It can also be applied in renewable energy storage systems to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the battery pack.

Problems Solved: - Ensures accurate temperature monitoring within the battery pack. - Prevents any potential leaks or damage to the sensor due to environmental factors.

Benefits: - Improved safety and efficiency of battery packs. - Enhanced monitoring capabilities for better performance.

Commercial Applications: - Electric vehicle industry for battery management systems. - Renewable energy sector for energy storage solutions.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the locking jaw member provide a secure fit for the temperature measuring sensor? 2. What are the potential implications of using this technology in electric vehicles for battery management systems?

Original Abstract Submitted

A battery pack including: a plurality of battery cells; a housing accommodating the plurality of battery cells; a temperature measuring sensor extending from outside the housing to inside the housing along an axial direction by passing through a mounting hole in the housing; and a sealing member. The temperature measuring sensor includes: a pillar part extending along the axial direction; a locking jaw member extending from a lower position of the pillar part to an upper position toward the housing along the axial direction, extending to follow both the axial direction and a crossing direction crossing the axial direction, and providing an elastic bias force along the crossing direction away from the pillar part with respect to the mounting hole in the housing; and an expansion part expanding from a circumference of the pillar part to cover the mounting hole at an upper portion of the mounting hole along the axial direction. The sealing member is between the expansion part of the temperature measuring sensor and the housing and surrounds the mounting hole.
