IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18732863 titled 'IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

The abstract describes an image forming apparatus with an exposure unit and an exposure support member that detachably supports the exposure unit and moves together in a specific direction.

  • The exposure unit exposes a photoconductor, while the exposure support member includes a support portion that moves orthogonally to the axial direction of the photoconductor.
  • The exposure unit has a first engagement portion that protrudes towards the exposure support member, while the support portion of the exposure support member has a second engagement portion that engages with the first engagement portion.
  • These engagement portions allow for the secure attachment and movement of the exposure unit with the exposure support member.

Potential Applications: - This technology can be used in various types of image forming apparatus such as printers, copiers, and scanners. - It can improve the efficiency and accuracy of image formation processes in these devices.

Problems Solved: - Provides a secure and stable attachment mechanism for the exposure unit in the image forming apparatus. - Enables smooth movement of the exposure unit and exposure support member in a specific direction.

Benefits: - Enhanced reliability and durability of the image forming apparatus. - Simplified maintenance and replacement of the exposure unit. - Improved image quality and consistency in the output.

Commercial Applications: - This technology can be valuable for companies manufacturing image forming devices, enhancing the performance and user experience of their products.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the engagement mechanism between the exposure unit and exposure support member improve the functionality of the image forming apparatus? 2. What are the potential cost-saving benefits for companies implementing this technology in their image forming devices?

Original Abstract Submitted

An image forming apparatus includes an exposure unit that exposes a photoconductor; and an exposure support member that includes a support portion that detachably supports the exposure unit and is moved integrally with the exposure unit in a first direction orthogonal to an axial direction of the photoconductor, wherein the exposure unit includes a first engagement portion that is formed on an opposing portion facing the support portion of the exposure support member in the first direction so as to protrude toward the exposure support member and further formed to extend in the axial direction of the photoconductor orthogonal to a protruding direction, the exposure support member includes a second engagement portion that is formed on the support portion facing the exposure unit at a position corresponding to the first engagement portion and engages with the first engagement portion.
