BATTERY PACK - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240322292 titled 'BATTERY PACK

The abstract describes a battery pack design that includes a unique arrangement of battery cells, cooling pieces, and bus bars for efficient operation and connectivity.

  • The battery cells are arranged in columns along a zigzag pattern in a row direction, alternating forward and rearward in the column direction.
  • Cooling pieces are placed between adjacent battery cells in the columns, extending in a meander shape along the outer circumference of the cells.
  • Bus bars on the terminal surface of the battery cells connect them electrically in rows adjacent to each other, with different electrodes exposed on the surface.

Potential Applications: - Electric vehicles - Energy storage systems - Portable electronic devices

Problems Solved: - Efficient cooling of battery cells - Improved electrical connectivity - Space optimization in battery pack design

Benefits: - Enhanced battery performance - Increased safety - Longer battery lifespan

Commercial Applications: Title: Innovative Battery Pack Design for Enhanced Performance This technology can be utilized in electric vehicles, energy storage systems, and various portable electronic devices, offering improved efficiency and safety in battery operation.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the zigzag arrangement of battery cells contribute to the overall performance of the battery pack? 2. What are the specific advantages of using cooling pieces in between the battery cells in terms of thermal management and safety?

Original Abstract Submitted

a battery pack includes: a plurality of battery cells in a plurality of columns, the battery cells in each of the columns being located along a column direction, and the battery cells in the columns adjacent to each other being located along a zigzag pattern in a row direction while alternately shifted forward and rearward in the column direction; a plurality of cooling pieces, each of the cooling pieces being located between the battery cells in the columns adjacent to each other, and extending in a meander shape along an outer circumference of the battery cells in the columns adjacent to each other; and a bus bar on a terminal surface of the battery cells to electrically connect the battery cells to each other in rows adjacent to each other, the terminal surface being a surface on which different first and second electrodes are exposed.
