METHOD AND SYSTEM TO AUTOMATICALLY RESPOND TO A USER INPUT - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18183285 titled 'METHOD AND SYSTEM TO AUTOMATICALLY RESPOND TO A USER INPUT

The abstract describes a method for automatically responding to user input by identifying the current domain, determining belief states using learning models, selecting an action, generating a response, and presenting it to the user.

  • The method involves receiving user input and identifying the current domain associated with it.
  • It uses a previously trained learning model to determine a belief state based on the current domain.
  • Additionally, a reinforcement learning model is used to determine another belief state based on the current domain and reward information.
  • An action is then determined based on the user input and one of the belief states.
  • Finally, a response is generated based on the action and presented to the user.

Potential Applications: - Customer service chatbots - Virtual assistants - Automated help desks

Problems Solved: - Efficiently responding to user input - Providing accurate and contextually relevant responses - Improving user experience in interactions with automated systems

Benefits: - Enhanced user satisfaction - Time-saving for both users and businesses - Improved accuracy in responses

Commercial Applications: Title: Automated Response System for Customer Interactions This technology can be used in various industries such as customer service, e-commerce, and telecommunications to streamline interactions with users and improve overall customer satisfaction.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does this method improve user interactions with automated systems? - This method enhances user interactions by providing contextually relevant and accurate responses based on the current domain and user input. 2. What are the potential drawbacks of using automated response systems in customer service? - Potential drawbacks may include limitations in understanding complex queries and the need for continuous training and updates to maintain accuracy.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method for automatically responding to a user input includes receiving the user input. The method also includes identifying a current domain associated with the user input. Further, the method includes determining, using a previously trained learning model, a first belief state, where the first belief state is based on the current domain. In addition, the method includes determining, using a reinforcement learning model, a second belief state, where the second belief state is based on the current domain and a reward information. Moreover, the method includes determining an action based on the user input and one selected from the group consisting of the first belief state and the second belief state. Also, the method includes generating a response based on the action and presenting the response to a user.
