ASSEMBLING METHOD FOR FUEL CELL STACK AND STACKING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18587601 titled 'ASSEMBLING METHOD FOR FUEL CELL STACK AND STACKING APPARATUS

The abstract describes a method for assembling a fuel cell stack by stacking unitized electrode assemblies with electrolyte membranes and electrodes, along with separators, in a predetermined region to form a cell stacked body.

  • Stacking alternately a unitized electrode assembly and a separator in a predetermined region to form a fuel cell stack.
  • Each unitized electrode assembly and separator is a stack element.
  • Transporting the stack element above the predetermined region while sucking the stack element by a suction portion.
  • Descending the stack element while positioning it along a guide member extending upward around the predetermined region.
  • Releasing the suction by the suction portion when the lower surface of the stack element abuts on the upper surface of another stack element already stacked in the predetermined region.

Potential Applications: - This method can be applied in the manufacturing of fuel cell stacks for various industries such as automotive, aerospace, and stationary power generation. - It can also be used in the development of portable fuel cell devices for consumer electronics.

Problems Solved: - Streamlines the assembly process of fuel cell stacks, increasing efficiency and reducing production time. - Ensures precise alignment of unitized electrode assemblies and separators, improving the overall performance of the fuel cell stack.

Benefits: - Enhanced reliability and durability of fuel cell stacks. - Cost-effective manufacturing process. - Increased energy efficiency in various applications.

Commercial Applications: Title: Innovative Fuel Cell Stack Assembly Method for Enhanced Efficiency This technology can be utilized in the commercial production of fuel cell stacks for vehicles, power plants, and portable electronic devices. Questions about Fuel Cell Stack Assembly: 1. How does this method improve the efficiency of fuel cell stack assembly? - This method improves efficiency by precisely stacking unitized electrode assemblies and separators in a predetermined region, ensuring proper alignment and enhancing overall performance. 2. What industries can benefit from the use of this fuel cell stack assembly method? - Industries such as automotive, aerospace, and power generation can benefit from this innovative assembly method for fuel cell stacks.

Original Abstract Submitted

An assembling method for a fuel cell stack including stacking alternately a unitized electrode assembly having an electrolyte membrane and an electrode, and a separator in a predetermined region to form a cell stacked body. Each of the unitized electrode assembly and the separator is a stack element, and the stacking includes transporting the stack element above the predetermined region while sucking the stack element by a suction portion, descending the stack element while positioning the stack element along a guide member extending upward around the predetermined region, and releasing a suction by the suction portion when a lower surface of the stack element abuts on an upper surface of another stack element having been stacked in the predetermined region.
