PORT REPLICATOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240310875 titled 'PORT REPLICATOR

The abstract of the patent application describes a port replicator with a pop-up portion that supports an electronic device and can be moved between a first position within the main body and a second position where it protrudes from the main body. An interference member ensures the pop-up portion stays in place when extended.

  • The port replicator includes a main body with a placement surface and an accommodation hole.
  • A pop-up portion in the accommodation hole supports the electronic device.
  • An elastic body biases the pop-up portion to protrude from the main body.
  • The pop-up portion can be moved between a retracted and extended position.
  • An interference member prevents the pop-up portion from moving unintentionally.

Potential Applications: - This technology can be used in docking stations for laptops and tablets. - It can be integrated into monitor stands to provide adjustable device support. - Manufacturers of electronic accessories can incorporate this innovation into their product lines.

Problems Solved: - Provides a stable and adjustable support for electronic devices. - Helps optimize workspace by allowing devices to be positioned at a comfortable viewing angle. - Prevents accidental movement of the pop-up portion when in use.

Commercial Applications: Title: Innovative Port Replicator Technology for Enhanced Device Support This technology can be marketed to office supply companies, tech accessory manufacturers, and ergonomic furniture suppliers. It has the potential to appeal to professionals working in various industries who rely on multiple electronic devices for their daily tasks.

Questions about Port Replicator Technology: 1. How does the pop-up portion of the port replicator stay in place when extended? - The pop-up portion is held in place by an interference member that prevents unintentional movement. 2. What are the potential applications of this technology beyond supporting electronic devices? - This technology can also be used in adjustable stands for cameras, microphones, or other equipment.

Original Abstract Submitted

a port replicator includes: a main body having a placement surface on which an electronic device is placed and an accommodation hole in the placement surface; a pop-up portion accommodated in the accommodation hole and having a support surface that supports the electronic device; and an elastic body that biases the pop-up portion in a direction in which the support surface protrudes from the accommodation hole. the pop-up portion is movable between a first position where the pop-up portion is accommodated in the accommodation hole and a second position where the support surface protrudes from the main body more than the first position, an interference member is provided on at least one of an inner wall of the accommodation hole or an outer wall of the pop-up portion along the inner wall, and the inner wall and the outer wall come into contact with each other via the interference member.
