SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ENCODING DATA USING PUNCTURED LOW-DENSITY PARITY-CHECK CODES - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18156247 titled 'SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ENCODING DATA USING PUNCTURED LOW-DENSITY PARITY-CHECK CODES
Simplified Explanation
The abstract describes a method for encoding or transmitting data using codewords. The method involves coding a set of payload bits at a certain rate to form unpunctured codewords. Punctured bits are then removed from the unpunctured codewords to create punctured codewords. The punctured codewords are then transmitted. The number of punctured bits can exceed certain thresholds.
- The method involves coding payload bits to form unpunctured codewords.
- Punctured bits are removed from the unpunctured codewords to create punctured codewords.
- The punctured codewords are then transmitted.
- The number of punctured bits can exceed certain thresholds.
Potential Applications
This technology can be applied in various fields where encoding and transmitting data is required, such as:
- Telecommunications
- Data storage and retrieval systems
- Wireless communication systems
- Error correction mechanisms
Problems Solved
This method addresses the following problems:
- Efficient encoding and transmission of data
- Error correction in data transmission
- Optimization of code rates for different applications

- Flexibility in adjusting code rates for different requirements
Original Abstract Submitted
A method for encoding or transmitting. In some embodiments, the method includes forming a set of one or more unpunctured codewords by coding a plurality of payload bits at a mother code rate, removing a plurality of punctured bits from the set of one or more unpunctured codewords to form a set of one or more punctured codewords, and transmitting the set of one or more punctured codewords. In some embodiments, the number of punctured bits exceeds a first threshold, or the number of punctured bits exceeds a second threshold.
