POWER AMPLIFIER MANAGEMENT - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17448244 titled 'POWER AMPLIFIER MANAGEMENT

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for controlling the amplification of audio signals in power amplifiers based on various parameters such as temperature, supply voltage, load resistance, and gain.

  • The method involves receiving data related to the first power amplifier and the second power amplifier.
  • A first amplitude limiting signal is generated using the received data, which includes gain parameters.
  • The first data includes measurements like temperature, supply voltage, load resistance, and gain associated with the first power amplifier.
  • An audio signal is modified based on the first amplitude limiting signal to generate a gain-adjusted audio signal.
  • The gain-adjusted audio signal is then provided as an output audio signal to the first power amplifier for amplification.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Audio amplification systems in various devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and audio receivers.
  • Professional audio equipment used in concerts, theaters, and recording studios.
  • Automotive audio systems in cars and other vehicles.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Ensures optimal amplification of audio signals by adjusting the gain based on various parameters.
  • Prevents distortion or damage to the power amplifiers by limiting the amplitude of the audio signals.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved audio quality by dynamically adjusting the gain based on real-time measurements.
  • Protection of power amplifiers from potential damage due to excessive amplification.
  • Enhanced efficiency and performance of audio systems by optimizing the amplification process.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method includes receiving first data associated with a first power amplifier and second data associated with a second power amplifier. The method also includes generating a first amplitude limiting signal having gain parameters that are based on the first data and the second data. The first data includes at least one of a temperature measurement associated with the first power amplifier, a supply voltage measurement associated with the first power amplifier, a load resistance associated with the first power amplifier, or a gain associated with the first power amplifier. The method further includes modifying an audio signal based at least in part on the first amplitude limiting signal to generate a first gain-adjusted audio signal. The method also includes providing a first output audio signal to the first power amplifier for amplification. The first output audio signal is based at least in part on the first gain-adjusted audio signal.
