POWER SUPPLY CONTROL DEVICE AND POWER SUPPLY CONTROL METHOD - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18566309 titled 'POWER SUPPLY CONTROL DEVICE AND POWER SUPPLY CONTROL METHOD

Simplified Explanation: An Electronic Control Unit (ECU) manages the power supply to a load by controlling an upstream switch and a downstream switch in the current path.

  • The ECU determines if current is flowing through the upstream switch when an instruction to switch it OFF is given.
  • If current is detected in the upstream switch, the ECU instructs to switch OFF the downstream switch.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • ECU controls power supply to a load through upstream and downstream switches.
  • Microcomputer-based control unit determines current flow and issues switch OFF commands.
  • Ensures efficient power management and protection of the load.

Potential Applications: This technology can be applied in:

  • Automotive systems
  • Industrial machinery
  • Home appliances

Problems Solved:

  • Prevents overload and damage to the load.
  • Enhances power efficiency and control.
  • Improves safety by cutting off power when necessary.

Benefits:

  • Increased reliability of power supply.
  • Enhanced protection for the load.
  • Efficient power management.

Commercial Applications: Potential commercial uses include:

  • Power distribution systems
  • Smart home devices
  • Industrial automation solutions

Prior Art: Research in the field of power management systems and microcontroller-based control units can provide insights into similar technologies.

Questions about ECU Power Management System: 1. How does the ECU determine current flow through the switches? 2. What are the key advantages of using a microcomputer-based control unit for power management?

Original Abstract Submitted

An ECU controls the supply of power to a load. An upstream switch and a downstream switch are respectively arranged upstream and downstream of the load in a current path of the flow of current through the load. A control unit of a microcomputer determines whether or not current is flowing through the upstream switch while an instruction to switch OFF the upstream switch has been given. If it was determined that current is flowing through the upstream switch, the control unit gives an instruction to switch OFF the downstream switch.
