NRT RIC ARCHITECTURE SUPPORTING FCAPS AND CLOUD ORCHESTRATION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18017153 titled 'NRT RIC ARCHITECTURE SUPPORTING FCAPS AND CLOUD ORCHESTRATION

The abstract describes a method performed by a non-real-time (NRT) Radio Access Network (RAN) Intelligent Controller (RIC) within a Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) framework of an open-RAN (O-RAN) network. The method involves obtaining fault, configuration, accounting, performance, and security (FCAPS) related information from at least one network element (NE) in the O-RAN network via an O1 connection, and implementing FCAPS related operations for the NE through the O1 connection.

  • Obtaining FCAPS related information from NEs in an O-RAN network via an O1 connection
  • Implementing FCAPS related operations for the NEs through the O1 connection
  • NRT RIC performing the method within an SMO framework of an O-RAN network
  • Enhancing network management and orchestration capabilities
  • Improving fault detection, configuration management, accounting, performance monitoring, and security measures in the network

Potential Applications: - Telecom networks - 5G networks - Network management systems

Problems Solved: - Efficiently obtaining and managing FCAPS related information in an O-RAN network - Enhancing network performance and security through intelligent operations

Benefits: - Improved network reliability - Enhanced security measures - Streamlined network management processes

Commercial Applications: Title: "Enhanced Network Management in O-RAN Networks" This technology can be utilized by telecom companies, network operators, and service providers to optimize their network performance, enhance security measures, and streamline network management processes in O-RAN networks.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the NRT RIC enhance network management in an O-RAN network? 2. What are the key benefits of implementing FCAPS related operations through the O1 connection in the network?

Original Abstract Submitted

A method, performed by a non-real-time (NRT) radio access network (RAN) Intelligent Controller (RIC) within a Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) framework of an open-RAN (O-RAN) network, includes obtaining, by the NRT RIC, fault, configuration, accounting, performance and security (FCAPS) related information via an O1 connection from at least one network element (NE) in the O-RAN network, and implementing, by the NRT RIC, at least one first FCAPS related operation corresponding to the FCAPS related information for the at least one NE via the O1 connection, where the O1 connection includes an interface between the at least one NE and an O1 termination of the NRT RIC.
