Lepidopteran-Active Cry1Da1 Amino Acid Sequence Variant Proteins - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18404247 titled 'Lepidopteran-Active Cry1Da1 Amino Acid Sequence Variant Proteins

Simplified Explanation: This patent application provides engineered Cry1Da amino acid sequences with enhanced Lepidopteran insecticidal activity compared to the naturally occurring Cry1Da protein toxin. It also includes polynucleotide sequences for expressing these improved proteins in plants.

  • Engineered Cry1Da amino acid sequences with improved Lepidopteran insecticidal activity
  • Enhanced Lepidopteran spectrum compared to naturally occurring Cry1Da protein toxin
  • Polynucleotide sequences for expressing improved proteins in plants
  • Compositions containing insect inhibitory amounts of the engineered proteins
  • Recombinant plants, plant parts, and seeds with polynucleotide constructs encoding the improved proteins

Potential Applications: The technology can be used in agriculture to protect crops from Lepidopteran pests, reducing the need for chemical insecticides. It may also have applications in biotechnology for developing genetically modified plants with enhanced insect resistance.

Problems Solved: This technology addresses the challenge of controlling Lepidopteran pests in agriculture in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly manner. It offers a targeted solution to reduce crop damage and improve yield.

Benefits: - Increased Lepidopteran insecticidal activity - Broader spectrum of effectiveness - Reduced reliance on chemical insecticides - Improved crop protection and yield

Commercial Applications: Title: Enhanced Lepidopteran Insecticidal Technology for Sustainable Agriculture This technology can be commercialized by seed companies, biotech firms, and agricultural organizations to develop genetically modified crops with improved insect resistance. It has the potential to create more sustainable farming practices and increase crop productivity.

Questions about Engineered Cry1Da Amino Acid Sequences: 1. How do engineered Cry1Da amino acid sequences differ from naturally occurring Cry1Da protein toxin in terms of insecticidal activity? 2. What are the potential implications of using polynucleotide sequences for expressing improved proteins in plants?

Original Abstract Submitted

Engineered Cry1Da amino acid sequences are provided that exhibit improved Lepidopteran insecticidal activity and an enhanced Lepidopteran spectrum compared to the naturally occurring Cry1Da protein toxin. Polynucleotide sequences intended for use in expression of the improved proteins in plants are also provided. Particular embodiments provide compositions containing insect inhibitory amounts of the engineered proteins, as well as recombinant plants, plant parts, and seeds containing polynucleotide constructs encoding one or more of the improved engineered proteins.
