METHOD FOR PROVIDING ULTRASOUND CATHETER WITH AN ACOUSTIC IMAGING MEDIUM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18419941 titled 'METHOD FOR PROVIDING ULTRASOUND CATHETER WITH AN ACOUSTIC IMAGING MEDIUM

The ultrasound catheter described in the patent application includes a distal port and a proximal port, allowing fluid communication between the two ports. The catheter also features an ultrasound transducer for imaging purposes.

  • The ultrasound catheter can be advanced through a guide catheter within a patient's vasculature, providing optimal imaging of the blood flow.
  • By applying a vacuum to the proximal port, the patient's blood is slowly drawn into the catheter through the distal port, replacing any air near the ultrasound transducer.
  • Surrounding the ultrasound transducer with the patient's blood creates an ideal imaging medium for obtaining ultrasound images.
  • The ultrasound transducer can be operated to capture high-quality ultrasound images while the vacuum is applied to the proximal port.

Potential Applications: - Medical imaging in vascular procedures - Monitoring blood flow in real-time during surgeries - Diagnosing vascular conditions and abnormalities

Problems Solved: - Ensures clear and accurate ultrasound imaging by eliminating air bubbles near the transducer - Provides a safe and effective method for imaging blood flow in patients

Benefits: - Improved visualization of blood flow for accurate diagnosis and treatment - Minimizes the risk of air embolisms during procedures - Enhances the overall safety and efficacy of vascular interventions

Commercial Applications: Title: Advanced Ultrasound Catheter for Precise Vascular Imaging This technology can be utilized in hospitals, clinics, and surgical centers for various vascular procedures, contributing to better patient outcomes and streamlined healthcare delivery.

Questions about Ultrasound Catheter Technology: 1. How does the ultrasound catheter improve imaging quality compared to traditional methods? 2. What are the specific advantages of using a vacuum to draw in the patient's blood for imaging purposes?

Frequently Updated Research: Stay updated on the latest advancements in ultrasound imaging technology for vascular applications to enhance patient care and treatment outcomes.

Original Abstract Submitted

An ultrasound catheter includes a distal port and a proximal port and is adapted to provide fluid communication between the distal port and the proximal port. The ultrasound catheter includes an ultrasound transducer. The ultrasound catheter may be advanced through a guide catheter that is positioned within a patient's vasculature and is fluidly coupled with the patient's blood. A vacuum may be applied to the proximal port, causing the patient's blood to be slowly pulled into the ultrasound catheter through the distal port such that any air near the ultrasound transducer is replaced with the patient's blood and the ultrasound transducer is surrounded by the patient's blood, which is an optimal imaging medium. The ultrasound transducer may be operated to obtain ultrasound images while applying the vacuum to the proximal port.
