VEHICLE CONTROL DEVICE AND AUTONOMOUS DRIVING SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18566175 titled 'VEHICLE CONTROL DEVICE AND AUTONOMOUS DRIVING SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a vehicle control device that can detect rough roads ahead of a vehicle using position estimation and map information. It also determines if the rough road has been detected based on road surface information.

  • The rough-road travel unit determines if there is a rough road ahead based on the vehicle's position and map information.
  • The outside environment information acquisition unit provides road surface information to determine if the rough road has been detected.
  • The rough-road detection-omission determination unit decides if rough-road detection should be omitted based on the position of the rough road and a detectable section of a stereo camera.

Potential Applications

This technology can be used in advanced driver assistance systems to improve vehicle safety and comfort by providing early detection of rough roads.

Problems Solved

This technology addresses the challenge of accurately detecting rough roads ahead of a vehicle to enhance driving experience and safety.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include improved road detection capabilities, enhanced vehicle control, and increased safety for drivers and passengers.

Commercial Applications

Title: Advanced Rough Road Detection System for Vehicles This technology can be commercially applied in automotive industry for developing advanced driver assistance systems, autonomous vehicles, and road condition monitoring systems.

Questions about Rough Road Detection

How does this technology improve driver safety?

This technology enhances driver safety by providing early detection of rough roads, allowing for better vehicle control and improved driving experience.

What are the potential implications of this technology in autonomous vehicles?

This technology can significantly enhance the capabilities of autonomous vehicles by enabling them to navigate rough roads more effectively and safely.

Original Abstract Submitted

In a vehicle control device , a rough-road travel unit determines whether or not there is a rough road within a predetermined range in front of a vehicle based on a position of the vehicle estimated by a position estimation unit and a position of a rough road acquired by a map information acquisition unit , and determines whether or not the rough road has been detected based on road surface information acquired by an outside environment information acquisition unit . When it is determined that there is the rough road within the predetermined range in front of the vehicle based on the position of the vehicle estimated by the position estimation unit and the position of the rough road acquired by the map information acquisition unit , and it is determined that the rough road is not detected based on the road surface information acquired by the outside environment information acquisition unit , a rough-road detection-omission determination unit determines whether or not rough-road detection is omitted based on the position of the rough road and a detectable section of a stereo camera
