Electrorheological Fluid Structure with Attached Conductor and Method of Fabrication - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18438767 titled 'Electrorheological Fluid Structure with Attached Conductor and Method of Fabrication

Simplified Explanation:

The patent application describes a system for a footwear sole component that can control an incline between a footbed and an outsole. An incline adjuster is placed between the footbed and the outsole, which includes a polymeric housing with fluid chambers and a controller with sensors to determine pressure differentials.

  • The system includes an incline adjuster with fluid chambers and a fluid transfer channel.
  • A controller with a processor, memory, IMU, and wireless communication module is used to monitor pressure differentials in the fluid chambers.
  • The system can adjust the incline of the footwear sole based on the pressure differences detected by the controller.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Polymeric housing with fluid chambers and fluid transfer channel

Original Abstract Submitted

A system for a footwear sole component to control an incline in between a footbed and an outsole. An incline adjuster is positioned between the footbed and the outsole. The incline adjuster has a polymeric housing having a first fluid chamber, a second fluid chamber, and a fluid transfer channel; a controller having a processor, a memory, an inertial measurement unit (IMU), and a low energy wireless communication module. The controller determines whether forces from a wearer foot on the first fluid chamber and on the second fluid chamber are creating a pressure within the first fluid chamber that is higher than a pressure within the second fluid chamber, or vice versa.
