VEHICLE AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18198451 titled 'VEHICLE AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a vehicle system that uses a camera and radar to detect objects in its surroundings and a controller to process the data and control the vehicle's braking and steering systems based on the detected objects.

  • The vehicle includes a camera and radar to detect objects in its external field of view.
  • The camera acquires image data while the radar acquires radar data.
  • The controller, which includes a processor, processes the image and radar data to determine the presence of a target object.
  • Based on the processing result, the controller can control the braking or steering device of the vehicle.
  • The controller can detect a target object in an adjacent lane and an obstacle in front of it.
  • The controller can perform acceleration or deceleration control based on the target object's acceleration or deceleration.

Potential Applications

  • Autonomous vehicles: This technology can be used in autonomous vehicles to detect and respond to objects in their surroundings, improving safety and navigation.
  • Collision avoidance systems: The system can be implemented in vehicles to detect and avoid collisions with objects in their path.
  • Advanced driver assistance systems: The technology can be used in advanced driver assistance systems to provide warnings and assistance to drivers in various situations.

Problems Solved

  • Improved object detection: The combination of camera and radar data allows for more accurate and reliable object detection, reducing the risk of collisions.
  • Enhanced control: The system enables the vehicle to autonomously control its braking and steering systems based on the detected objects, improving safety and responsiveness.

Benefits

  • Increased safety: By detecting and responding to objects in its surroundings, the system helps prevent accidents and collisions.
  • Improved efficiency: The system can optimize acceleration and deceleration based on the behavior of detected objects, leading to more efficient driving.
  • Enhanced driver assistance: The technology provides assistance to drivers by detecting and warning about objects in their path, improving overall driving experience.

Original Abstract Submitted

A vehicle according to one or more example embodiments includes a camera having an external field of view and acquire image data for detecting a target object in the external field of view of the camera, a radar having an external field of view from the vehicle and acquire radar data for detecting the target object in the external field of view of the radar, and a controller including at least one processor. The at least one processor may be configured to process the image data and the radar data to yield a processing result, and control, based on the processing result, at least one of a braking device or a steering device. The controller may be configured to detect the target object traveling in a lane adjacent to the vehicle, detect an obstacle preceding the target object, and perform acceleration control or deceleration control based on detecting acceleration or deceleration of the target object.
