DECELERATION TURNING ASSISTANCE DEVICE, TOWED VEHICLE AND COUPLED VEHICLES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18300916 titled 'DECELERATION TURNING ASSISTANCE DEVICE, TOWED VEHICLE AND COUPLED VEHICLES

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a deceleration turning assistance device for a towed vehicle that is pivotably coupled to a towing vehicle. The device includes braking devices on each wheel of the towed vehicle and a braking force difference generating portion.

  • The device is designed to assist in decelerated turning when the towed vehicle is coupled to the towing vehicle.
  • The braking devices are located on the left and right wheels of the towed vehicle.
  • The braking force difference generating portion adjusts the braking force between the left and right wheels based on the hitch angle between the towing vehicle and the towed vehicle.
  • The purpose of generating a left-right braking force difference is to decrease the hitch angle during decelerated turning.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be applied to various towed vehicles, such as trailers, caravans, or other types of vehicles that are towed by a towing vehicle.
  • It can be used in both recreational and commercial settings, including camping, transportation, and logistics industries.

Problems Solved

  • Decelerated turning with a towed vehicle can be challenging and may result in increased hitch angles, leading to stability issues.
  • This device solves the problem of maintaining stability during decelerated turning by generating a braking force difference between the left and right wheels of the towed vehicle.

Benefits

  • Improved stability and control during decelerated turning with a towed vehicle.
  • Decreased hitch angles, reducing the risk of jackknifing or overturning.
  • Enhanced safety for both the towing vehicle and the towed vehicle.
  • Simplified and efficient mechanism for generating the necessary braking force difference.

Original Abstract Submitted

A deceleration turning assistance device, includes: braking devices respectively provided at each of a left wheel and a right wheel of a towed vehicle that is configured to be pivotably coupled to a towing vehicle via a coupling portion; and a braking force difference generating portion that, in a case of decelerated turning in a state in which the towed vehicle is coupled to the towing vehicle, is configured to generate a left-right braking force difference between the braking devices in accordance with a hitch angle between the towing vehicle and the towed vehicle so as to decrease the hitch angle.
