DATA EXTRACTION DEVICE, DATA EXTRACTION METHOD, AND DATA TRANSMISSION DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18279291 titled 'DATA EXTRACTION DEVICE, DATA EXTRACTION METHOD, AND DATA TRANSMISSION DEVICE
The patent application describes a data extraction device that captures images of the surroundings outside a vehicle and extracts specific images for transmission based on certain criteria.
- The device includes processing circuitry to acquire images captured by the vehicle's imaging device.
- It determines an image to be analyzed based on the extraction distance traveled by the vehicle since the last image extraction.
- The device calculates an obstruction distance, indicating the actual distance from the start position of the image to an obstruction in the image.
- The obstruction distance is then output as the next extraction distance.
- Finally, the device extracts the image identified for analysis.
Potential Applications: - This technology can be used in advanced driver assistance systems to improve road safety by analyzing potential obstructions in real-time. - It can also be applied in autonomous vehicles to enhance their ability to navigate through complex environments.
Problems Solved: - The device helps in identifying and analyzing potential obstructions in the surroundings of a vehicle, aiding in decision-making for the driver or autonomous system.
Benefits: - Improved safety on the road by providing real-time analysis of potential obstructions. - Enhanced efficiency in autonomous vehicle navigation through complex environments.
Commercial Applications: Title: Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for Enhanced Road Safety This technology can be utilized by automotive manufacturers to integrate advanced driver assistance systems in vehicles, catering to the growing demand for safer and more efficient transportation solutions.
Questions about the technology: 1. How does the device determine which image to extract for analysis? 2. What are the key benefits of using this data extraction device in autonomous vehicles?
Original Abstract Submitted
A data extraction device, which extracts an image for transmission from images obtained by capturing surroundings outside a vehicle with an imaging device mounted on the vehicle each time the vehicle travels an extraction distance, includes: processing circuitry configured to acquire an image obtained by capturing the surroundings outside the vehicle; determine, as an object to be analyzed, an image captured at a position advanced by the extraction distance from a position at which a previously extracted image has been captured, and calculate an obstruction distance which indicates an actual distance from an imaging start position of the image having been determined as the object to be analyzed to a position of an obstruction included in the determined image; output the calculated obstruction distance as a next extraction distance; and extract the image that has been determined as the object to be analyzed.
