Abstract: a haircare appliance is described comprising a heater assembly and a controller. the heater assembly comprises a heating element and a sensor to sense a temperature of the heater assembly. the controller is configured to determine the presence or absence of hair in contact with the heater assembly based on the sensed temperature.
