METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLING WIRELESS POWER TRANSMISSION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18356093 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLING WIRELESS POWER TRANSMISSION

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a wireless power receiver that can receive power from a wireless power transmitter. Here are the key points:

  • The receiver has a part that can receive wireless power from the transmitter.
  • It also has a main controller that generates a signal with an FOD (Foreign Object Detection) status packet.
  • The main controller sends this signal to the transmitter.
  • If the transmitter responds with a NAK (Negative Acknowledgment) indicating a foreign object is present in the charging area, the receiver receives a first power from the transmitter.
  • If the transmitter responds with an ACK (Acknowledgment) indicating no foreign object is present, the receiver receives a second power from the transmitter.
  • The main controller also sends a reception power packet to the transmitter, which includes information about the intensity of the received power.
  • The main controller then receives a signal from the transmitter, which contains information about whether a foreign object is present in the charging area.
  • This information is determined by the transmitter using measurements or calculations based on the reception power packet.
  • The receiver continues to receive the second power while receiving this signal from the transmitter.

Original Abstract Submitted

A wireless power receiver of receiving power from a wireless power transmitter, including a receiving part configured to receive a wireless power from the wireless power transmitter; and a main controller configured to generate a signal including an FOD status packet, wherein the main controller transmits a signal including the FOD status packet to the wireless power transmitter; wherein the main controller receives a first power from the wireless power transmitter when a NAK response indicating that a foreign object is present in a charging area of the wireless power transmitter is received from the wireless power transmitter, or receives a second power from the wireless power transmitter when an ACK response indicating that the foreign object is not present in the charging area of the wireless power transmitter is received from the wireless power transmitter, in response to the FOD status packet; wherein the main controller transmits a reception power packet including information on reception power intensity to the wireless power transmitter; and wherein the main controller receives a signal including information on a result of determining whether the foreign object is present in the charging area from the wireless power transmitter using information measured or calculated by the wireless power transmitter in response to the reception power packet, while receiving the second power.
