PHOTODETECTOR AND DISTANCE MEASURING SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18345811 titled 'PHOTODETECTOR AND DISTANCE MEASURING SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a photodetector with multiple pixel circuits. Each pixel circuit consists of a Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) and a first element, which can be a variable resistor or a switch. The first element is connected to one end of the SPAD in one direction, and the ends of the first elements in the other direction are connected together in parallel. The other ends of the SPADs are also connected together in parallel. These parallel connections are then connected to a second resistor. The resistance value of the second resistor (R) is higher than the resistance value of the resistive component at the end of each first element in the other direction (R).

  • The photodetector includes multiple pixel circuits with SPADs and first elements.
  • The first elements can be variable resistors or switches.
  • The first elements are connected to one end of the SPADs in one direction.
  • The ends of the first elements in the other direction are connected together in parallel.
  • The other ends of the SPADs are also connected together in parallel.
  • These parallel connections are connected to a second resistor.
  • The resistance value of the second resistor (R) is higher than the resistance value of the resistive component at the end of each first element in the other direction (R).

Original Abstract Submitted

A photodetector includes a plurality of pixel circuits. Each of the pixel circuits includes an SPAD and a first element being a variable resistor or a switch. The first element has an end in one direction connected to one end of the SPAD. Ends of the first elements in another direction are connected together in parallel. The other ends of the SPADs are connected together in parallel. The other ends connected together in parallel are connected to a second resistor. A resistance value Rof the second resistor is higher than a resistance value Rof a resistive component at the end of each of the first elements in the another direction.
