Systems With Window Illuminators - A simplified explanation of the abstract

  • This abstract for appeared for US patent application number 18337360 Titled 'Systems With Window Illuminators'

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a system that includes windows with a special type of glass called laminated glass. These windows separate the inside and outside of a vehicle. Inside the window, there is a light guide illuminator that provides illumination for the interior of the vehicle. The light guide receives light from a light source and has structures that scatter light. These scattering structures become denser as you move away from the light source, ensuring that the interior illumination is even across the light guide. Additionally, there may be an adjustable optical component layer, like a light modulator or haze compensation layer, placed between the light guide and the laminated glass. This layer has scattering structures that become less dense as you move away from the light source.

Original Abstract Submitted

A system may have windows. A window may have a structural window layer such as a structural window layer formed from laminated glass layers. The window may separate an exterior region from an interior region within the vehicle. A light guide illuminator in the window may provide illumination for the interior region. The light guide illuminator may have a light guide that receives light from a light source. The light guide may have a density of light scattering structures that increases as a function of increasing distance from the light source so that the interior illumination is uniform across the light guide illuminator. An adjustable optical component layer such as a light modulator and/or a haze compensation layer with a density of light scattering structures that decreases as a function of distance from the light source may be interposed between the light guide and the structural window layer.
